LIVESTOCK VIRTUAL FENCING

In 2024, Highland Agri sourced CAGS grant funding for a crofter who wished to graze his bulling heifers as far out as possible on a large (64000 acre) common grazing.

In the middle of January 2025, the crofter brought the 10 heifers home for the rest of the winter and grazing control using the collars allowed him to:

Manage where the cattle grazed, keeping the heifers away from:
⦁ public roads
⦁ areas where there have been problems with dogs
⦁ stock bulls in the township, and locate the cattle on a huge area, using the app on his mobile phone.

The crofter noted this extended the grazing season by 3 months, and a saving of 36 bales of silage, and 1.5 tonnes of feed.

Highland Agri enjoys an excellent working relationship with Nofence. We have collars which we can bring to you for a demonstration. Please get in touch using the if you would like to discuss any CAGS application.

By Highland Agri

With over four decades of experience in Scottish Agriculture, I decided in 2024 to establish my own agricultural business, Highland Agri. I have developed the business to assist and support farmers and crofters across the north of Scotland and the Islands. On finishing agricultural college, I started my career as a hill shepherd, quickly moving on to farm and estate management. Subsequently, I spent 11 years with the Department of Agriculture, where I managed the Livestock Inspection Team and the Crofting Agricultural Grant Scheme. From here, I spent three years with the Highland Machinery Ring before starting Highland Agri. My knowledge and expertise comes from many years of hands on experience, including farming and managing one of Scotland’s most geographically challenging estates in Glen Shee. I understand the challenges faced by farmers and crofters. I’m able to appreciate their unique needs and work with my clients to fulfil their goals.
